Orange Superfood Smoothie Bowl

 

It’s my birthday today and only my closest friends and family know that its my birthday because I really don’t share it with many. Not even on Facebook, maybe I will get three “Happy Birthday” wishes on Facebook today. So why am I posting it today on this blog? Well two reasons, one I want to share this orange superfood, anti-aging and anti-inflammatory, heart healthy and disease fighting smoothie bowl that I made for breakfast with you and two I want to reflect on the past years that I have been given that so many are not. Specifically, this morning I found out that it is National Walk-out Day this is about high schoolers across the country planning to walk out of class today, at 10:00 a.m. in each time zone, in protest of gun violence. They will then spend 17 minutes — one minute for each of the 17 victims — outside, before returning to class. It just may me think back and realize that things have gotten progressively worse in some sense in our country and I feel so sad for our younger generation for all that they endure but at the same time, I see that they have the strength and conviction to change the wrong and for that I am so very proud of them. Regardless of political positions or beliefs people have, I do believe that every living beings, humans and non-humans, have the right to live free from fear, pain and oppression from another being. Its just basic humanity and so many don’t even get that.

Now onto sharing my recipe, this smoothie is so delicious and so good for you. As I get older, I really try to keep healthy naturally. I don’t want to take 20 pills a day just to survive. I believe in prevention through diet. This gorgeous naturally orange fruits and vegetable smoothie bowl has bananas, carrots, cantaloupe melon, chia seeds, turmeric, fresh ginger, raw cashews and and almond milk. The toppings are sliced mandarins, sliced cantaloupe melon, golden berries, chopped raw cashews and chia seeds, and of course Happy Birthday in chocolate 🙂 The flavors blend very well the smoothie is delicious!

  1. Place all ingredients into a power blender and blend until smooth. Should have a soft ice cream consistency. Add more milk to thin out the smoothie. Top with desired toppings, mandarins, melon, golden berries, cashews and chia seeds.
  2. CHOCOLATE MESSAGE Place 1/4 chocolate chips in a plastic bag and microwave until melted. (keep an eye on it or it will burn). Cut a small hole in the corner and pipe out any message or word you would like. Allow to harden and add a special personal touch to a healthy breakfast smoothie made with love.
