Olive Salad Hummus with Naan Bread

 

I never had a muffuletta (or muffaletta) sandwich before but I have had the olive salad that makes the sandwich. The signature olive salad consists of olives diced and mixed with celery, carrots, peppers and cauliflower that are pickled, also known as Giardiniera. The mixed olive salad is seasoned with oregano, garlic and other seasonings and mixed with olive oil. Its best when left to marinate for at least 24 hours to allow the flavors to open up and blend. About a year ago I picked up a large jar of olive salad at Costco and I have not been able to get it there since. It is available on Amazon, but of course its a bit more expensive, but well worth it. That Pickle Guy New Orleans Style Olive Muffalata is my favorite, but there are others available. I could and have eaten this stuff out of the jar and since I won’t be spreading it on the traditional meat sandwich I needed to find another way to inhale this mixture of goodness. So why not top traditional hummus with a heaping spoonful of olive salad. So glad I made this, it is outstanding and one of the easiest appetizers to put together. Great to serve a party you are hosting or bring a batch with you if attending a party.

Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients in a food processor and process until all ingredients until smooth. Top with olive salad. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds, olive oil and fresh ground pepper if desired. Serve with toasted Naad or pita bread.
